Dorchester is settled by Europeans.

June 16, 1630

(OS 6/6) Originally called Mattapannock by Native Americans and Rock Hill by Europeans, it settled by some 140 [220] passengers from the Mary and John, who land near today’s Savin Hill and establish a settlement near today’s 2 Pleasant Street. Justin Winsor subsequently writes, “Had not the waters of Dorchester Bay been more shallow than those of the other side of Dorchester Heights, we should probably have had to record the annexation of Boston to Dorchester instead of the reverse.”
